It’s a tradition that’s been around for a long time, and with good reason. It’s the perfect time to get rid of the old to bring in the new. Schedule It Out
Sometimes, we just need to force ourselves to do the things we don’t want to do. We know that spring cleaning is important, so we need to allot a specific time of day to incorporate cleaning into our daily schedule. Once you have it written down somewhere, the idea of cleaning becomes more concrete and starts to feel less like something you can’t forego. Scheduling is a great way to plan out the more difficult parts of your day to make them easier to tackle.
Set Reasonable Expectations
It’s very unlikely that you’ll have the will to clean your entire house, top to bottom, in one day or even one weekend. You need to be reasonable with yourself about how much you can handle each day. The more you fight against this, the harder it’s going to be to keep cleaning. If the thought of doing that much cleaning all at once is holding you back, dial your expectations back just a little bit.
Gather Up the Right Supplies
In a similar way that buying a new outfit for the gym makes you want to go to the gym more, you can get more excited about cleaning if you have the right supplies for it. If vacuuming is a pain for you, try to find a better one for this year. If you hate dusting, get yourself a tool that makes it easier. This may seem like a small thing, but it does make the process easier. Sometimes that’s all the motivation we need to get started.
If you want to keep your motivation for spring cleaning high, you can start to time yourself whenever you begin cleaning. Set a timer for a short amount of time and see how much you can get done in that space. When the timer goes off, set another short timer where you don’t clean anything—just relax. Do this back and forth and you’ll be surprised at how much you get done.
