Seasons changing doesn’t just mean that the leaves change color, and the temperature gets colder. It also means a change in our clothing. Short sleeves turn long, breezy cotton changes to cozy flannel, and autumnal reds, oranges, and neutrals clip into our daily ensembles.

But if you want to add a little flair to your outfits while capturing all that is good and lovely, these are the must-have accessories for your fall wardrobe.

Hats

We often think of hats as a summertime accessory designed to keep the sun off our faces. But as the weather gets colder, hats have a role to play in fall fashion too. A few popular fall hat choices include:

  • Beanies
  • Wide-brimmed fedoras
  • Baseball caps
  • Newsboy
  • Beret

For choosing the right hat for your outfit, keep in mind the hat’s colors and fabric. Fall fashion favors neutral tones and felt fabrics over straw.

Scarves

Scarves are one of the more practical accessories for your fall wardrobe. But scarves are more than just a way to keep the cold air off your face as the weather gets colder: they can add visual interest to your outfit with a pop of color. And the beauty is you can tie your scarf dozens of ways for endless outfit combinations. For instance:

  • Loosely wrapped around the neck with both ends facing front
  • Loosely wrapped around the neck with one end facing front and the other back
  • Knotted close to the neck
  • Tying it in the front like an ascot
  • Leaving it to hang loosely over the shoulders

Boots

When winter rolls around, those of us living in snowy regions will live in boots—unflattering, rubbery snow boots designed to keep our feet warm but not necessarily stylish.

But fall’s perfect combination of cool temperatures and lack of snow creates the perfect opportunity to put our more fashionable boots on display. Whether your boots are short or tall, suede or leather, fall boots tend to favor neutral or bronze colors. But that doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate other colors as well.
